What's Currently Going in the Online Gambling Industry | P R I

I recently came across an article from the author of the judi online blog, which highlighted some of the current and upcoming trends in the online gaming industry. Since I am a relatively new player of online gaming, I read this article thoroughly so I could learn as much about online gambling as possible. As a professional IT specialist, I was also interested in learning about any new types of gaming technology.

In terms of current gaming trends, I learned that the average online gambler player today is between the ages of twenty five and thirty. I also learned that most players today are averaging about five hundred dollars in daily online bets. Although I am a little older and a lot more inexperienced then the average player, I still feel that I have a good chance of making a decent amount of money. However, I will admit that I am not willing to risk five hundred dollars of my hard earned money to play any type of game.

In regards to future online gambling trends, the article stated that the number of people who will try online gambling will increase by twenty two percent by 2015. The reason for this increase is that a large number of individuals (especially those from the baby boomer generation) are expected to have less debt and much more disposal income. In addition to this, the average age of online gamblers is expected to change from twenty seven to thirty eight. In terms of online betting, this is also expected to increase by at least twenty percent. This means that the average amount an online player bets will increase from five hundred to six hundred dollars.

Another thing that is expected to change in the online gambling field in the near future, is that more online games will be available for iPhones, iPads and laptops.

Young children in lower-income families who live in high-cost areas don't do as well academically as their counterparts in low-cost areas, according to a new study.

The study, by researchers at Child Trends and the University of California (UCLA), appears in the journal Child Development.

"Among families with incomes below 300 percent of the federal poverty thresholdthat's below $66,339 for a family of fourliving in a region with a higher cost of living was related to lower academic achievement in first grade," according to Nina Chien, a research scientist with Child Trends, who coauthored the study.

"This is the first study to show that income isn't enough," Chien added. "Cost-of-living differences also matter for children's development, particularly for children from lower-income families."

Researchers used data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study-Kindergarten Cohort, a nationally representative sample of more than 17,500 children at more than 2,000 schools who started kindergarten in 1998. They estimated the relation among such factors as cost of living, family income, material hardship, parents' investments in their children's educational activities, as well as assessments of parents' psychological well-being (such as moms' reports of depressive symptoms and conflict in the marriage), parenting practices (such as warmth and having routines), and school resources.

Researchers then looked at these factors in relation to children's academic achievement (as measured by teachers' reports and tests of how well the children read and did math), and social-emotional development (as measured by teachers' reports of children's behavior problems and social skills).

In addition to the pattern for all families with incomes below 300 percent poverty, findings specific to families below 100 percent of the federal poverty level pointed to further differences. Among children who lived in families below 100 percent of the federal poverty threshold, those who lived in a higher-cost area (compared to those in a lower-cost area) had parents who made fewer investments in educational activities and went to schools with fewer resources.

"This makes sense," Chien notes. "For poor families already struggling to meet basic needs such as housing, utilities, and food, living in a higher-cost area meant that families had little left over to afford educationally enriching materials or activities for their children."

Differences for lower-income families according to cost of living in the area of residence held even when taking into account a comprehensive set of demographic variables. The pattern was not seen in children from more affluent families, suggesting that their academic achievement wasn't as sensitive to cost-of-loving variations.

"Many government assistance programs are applied by income and don't take into account variations in cost of living," Chien notes. "Our findings suggest that poor and lower-income families living in higher-cost areas may have a greater need for public assistance to offset the higher costs of basic expenditures."

Todd Akin ignores first deadline to drop out of Missouri race. Now what?

Rep. Todd Akin withstood calls from the Republican establishment to drop out of the Missouri Senate race, following his comment about 'legitimate rape.' His next deadline is Sept. 25.

By Linda Feldmann,?Staff writer / August 21, 2012

Rep. Todd Akin (R) of Missouri, and his wife, Lulli, talk with reporters while attending the Governor's Ham Breakfast at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Mo., last week.

Despite the pleadings of top Republicans, from Mitt Romney on down, to drop out of the Missouri Senate race, Rep. Todd Akin has held firm: He is staying in.

An important deadline has now passed. Under Missouri election law, if Congressman Akin had agreed to quit the race before 5 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, all the state Republican Party committee needed do was name a replacement candidate in the next two weeks?to face Sen. Claire McCaskill (D).

Now, on the eve of the Republican National Convention, the embarrassing spectacle of the party?s top figures trying to get the winner of a state primary to quit his race moves into a new phase. If Akin drops out by Sept. 25, his name can still be removed from the ballot, though with a court order. The two-week rule on naming a replacement would still apply.

After Sept. 25, Akin?s name remains on the ballot, regardless of whether he?s actively running. An alternate Republican could run as a write-in.

The uproar over Akin?s candidacy began on Sunday, when the conservative House member referred to ?legitimate rape? in explaining his views on abortion.

?It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that?s really rare,? Akin said of pregnancies from rape, speaking on St. Louis television. ?If it?s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let?s assume that maybe that didn?t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.?

Akin has apologized for saying ?legitimate rape? ? he says he ?misspoke? ? but has not backed down from his no-exceptions view of abortion. By Monday morning, the political world was in full uproar, as top Republicans urged Akin to step aside to allow an undamaged replacement to take on Senator McCaskill.

Republicans consider McCaskill the most vulnerable Democrat in the Senate, and have been counting on winning her seat in their drive to retake control of the Senate.

On Monday, Mr. Romney ? poised to become the Republicans? presidential nominee next week ? held back from overtly calling on Akin to drop out. The thinking seemed to be that if Akin resisted a call to drop out, Romney would look weak. By Tuesday afternoon, there was no holding back.

?As I said yesterday, Todd Akin's comments were offensive and wrong and he should very seriously consider what course would be in the best interest of our country,? Romney said in a statement. ?Today, his fellow Missourians urged him to step aside, and I think he should accept their counsel and exit the Senate race.?

Web Site Marketing Methods | Internet Marketing News - Search ...

Get MORE Facebook Fans & Likes

Web site marketing is one of the most important methods for managing a business online. It allows for a business to get customers to the website who are most likely to buy from the company. Whether purchasing products, signing up for services or other activities, the only way to get results from a website is to let more people know that the website is there. Through effective web site marketing methods, this can be accomplished without a lot of risk.

Various tools are available to help a business owner to do well online. For example, web site marketing requires that you spend a good deal of time using several methods, not just one. Here are some of the various types of marketing your business may want to consider using to get full Internet exposure and maximum results.

1. The use of email marketing is quite important. Communicate with your clients through email. Emails must be designed to get them to click on the links to take them to the website. They need go out according to legal requirements, including anti spam laws.

2. Targeted traffic is key to building a website. Targeted traffic is traffic that comes to your website that has somehow been qualified. For example, the traffic could be coming in response to an ad or because the individual has already shown some interest in the products you have. Targeted traffic is much more likely to make a purchase than any other form of traffic. You want the largest amount of targeted visitors as possible.

3. Press releases are a tool to help any business to get the word out. Press releases work in mostly the same way as they would in the offline world. They simply communicate news to the media. This news gets around, and ultimately you can count on seeing an increase in traffic from these tools. Many of the businesses online that do not use them fail to reach their full potential.

As you consider what types of web site marketing your business needs, plan to spend some time learning the ins and outs of this field. A business owner does not necessarily need to have a budget as large as other companies, but they do need to know the proper types of web site marketing for their website and the tools for making it happen. There can be a rather steep learning curve but it can bear fruit.

A web site without any type of marketing is one that is not getting enough traffic, enough sales and enough return customers. Proper marketing can help to turn even a small business into a successful, financially strong company. Those that do not have successful web marketing may find themselves without the value that they could have had. The good news is that it is very possible to have this within a business today when you either educate yourself on how to market or hire a company to do it for you.

Iran rejects allegation of role in deadly Afghan bombings

KABUL (Reuters) - Iran has rejected Afghan government claims that Tehran orchestrated a series of suicide bomb attacks earlier this week that killed at least 28 people in Afghanistan, Iran's English-language Press TV reported on Sunday.

Afghanistan's spy agency, the National Directorate of Security (NDS), killed two alleged insurgents and detained three more this week for what they said was their involvement in the bombings this week in Afghanistan's Nimroz province.

The NDS said the five were Iranian citizens, and that they had trained for suicide bomb missions in Iran, which borders Afghanistan to its west.

"Stressing the friendly relations between Iran and Afghanistan, (Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin) Mehmanparast on Saturday denied any meddling by Iran," state-funded Press TV wrote on its site.

"(He) rejected the allegation that Iran was involved in the recent explosions in the Afghan province of Nimroz," it said.

Afghan officials routinely blame Iran and Pakistan, its neighbour to the east, for interfering in its affairs and providing weapons and training to insurgents, claims that Tehran and Islamabad deny.

In a speech marking Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, the main Muslim feast at the end of Ramadan, President Hamid Karzai said the Afghan people would settle the score with the Taliban if they are to blame for a string of bloody civilian attacks in recent days, including Nimroz.

But hinting at foreign aggression, Karzai said: "If you (Taliban) are not to blame and someone else has carried this out using your name then as a Muslim and as an Afghan raise your voice and tell the people".

Attention is turning towards Afghanistan's neighbors and what role they could play in the country's future as NATO and its foreign partners prepare to end their combat role by the end of 2014.

Though Afghan-Iranian ties have improved since the Taliban was ousted just over a decade ago with Washington even saying Tehran could help stabilize and rebuild Afghanistan. But the relationship remains fragile.

Iran rejected Afghanistan's long-term strategic agreement with the United States, sealed in May, and Afghan officials have accused Iran of meddling in its media.

Bombers in largely rural Nimroz province on Tuesday targeted crowded outdoor markets where shoppers were preparing for the end of Ramadan and a hospital in the provincial capital of Zaranj, about an hour's drive from the Iranian border.

Quick Guide: Traveling with Holiday Insurance by Travelogger

Going on holiday or traveling wherever the wind may take you is a great experience for the whole family. Of course, going out of state or country takes planning and prep work. You must find the right airfare, the correct hotels and the most important, the entertainment. Whether you are scaling the Alps or going to a world-class amusement park, you need extensive organization. One vital aspect that some people overlook is holiday insurance. It is dire that you as well as your family is protected in case something goes awry.

There are various reasons why one may choose to receive holiday insurance. The family car may break down, your flight was late and your hotel gave away your room or an illness might hinder the trip. If you have holiday insurance, additional expenses that were not foreseen will possibly be covered. Of course, it depends on the policy.

Here is a quick guide to help you choose the correct holiday insurance:

  • Understand the policy and what it covers. Typically, holiday insurance guards against the following: Lost/stolen items ? luggage, tickets and other personal items, Expenses caused by delays such as in flights or baggage, health ? even if you have health insurance, your current policy may not cover out of state or out of the country.
  • Obtain an insurance policy that also covers catastrophic or dangerous situations. Natural disasters happen everywhere. If you are evacuated or just moved from one area to the other, the hotel or flight will not reimburse you. With the proper insurance, you will not have to fork out more money for a different location.
  • Learn the different methods for buying holiday insurance. Typically, you can inquire about this from your travel agent or if you are going through a tour company. However, these often have only one, maybe two insurance providers available. You could choose to go through online resources that can provide different plans/policies for your specific needs at a less expensive rate.
  • Completely go over any policy before you buy. Some may cover things that others do not. Read and understand the provider?s promise before you shell out money or sign the papers. Ask questions, and thoroughly comprehend what you have read as this will save you time as well as energy in the long run.
  • Be aware of what the policy will not cover. Higher risk traveling destinations, dangerous activities or any illness before the policy may not be available. War-ridden places, higher crime rates or threats of terrorism could cause a delay in policy. Additionally, sky diving, wild animals or jungles could hinder your policy. There is some insurance provider?s that will allow you to be covered but you may end up searching long as well as paying higher premiums.

Your vacation should be filled with family fun and memories. Take the added stress off by obtaining proper holiday insurance. When the unforeseen happens, you can protect your family without having to run your credit to the maximum.

Israel holds four Palestinians over 'kidnap plot'

Israel has been holding four Palestinian militants since May on suspicion of plotting to kidnap Israelis for use as bargaining chips for their jailed leader, the security service said on Monday.

The Shin Bet statement ended a protracted media blackout on the arrest of the four members of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

"In May, Shin Bet agents, backed by the army and police, arrested an armed PFLP cell that was preparing to kidnap Israelis for use as bargaining chips to secure the release of Palestinian prisoners," the statement said.

It said the four were suspected of plotting to seize "soldiers or settlers" with the aim of securing the release of jailed PFLP leader Ahmed Saadat.

It said the four were charged with illegal possession of weapons before a military court, which remanded them in custody until trial.

The Shin Bet statement said that Saadat was jailed in Israel for his "involvement in several terrorist attacks, notably the murder of (Tourism) Minister Rehavam Zeevi."

In fact, Israeli prosecutors dropped charges against the PFLP leader of involvement in the October 2001 murder in annexed Arab east Jerusalem of the far-right Zeevi.

A military court in December 2008 sentenced Saadat to 30 years in prison for heading a "terrorist organisation."

Saadat had been seized by Israeli forces in a controversial 2006 raid on a Palestinian prison in the West Bank town of Jericho where he was being held under British and US supervision.

Then Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat had detained him in January 2002 as one of Israel's conditions for lifting a siege on his West Bank headquarters in Ramallah.

His detention came after the PFLP claimed the killing of Zeevi, an ultra rightwinger who supported the ideology of "transfer," which would see all Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip expelled to neighbouring Arab countries.

While in prison, Saadat was elected to the Palestinian parliament in January 2006.

The PFLP leader was among several high-profile Palestinian prisoners who were excluded from an exchange last year in which hundreds were freed in return for the release by Gaza militants of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Saadat has been held in solitary confinement for extended periods and has gone on hunger strike more than once.

Android Team Experimenting with Faster OS Updates for Smartphones

Published on:

?A team at the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) have announced an experiment that could theoretically make it possible to load the latest version of the Android OS onto non-Nexus handsets as soon as it is released.

Currently, most handset vendors make tweaks to the Android OS for their handsets, which means they have to make those same modifications to every OS upgrade deployed - leading to long delays in upgrades being available.

The lead developer, Google's Jean-Baptiste Queru wrote a note on the developer forum that he was kicking off an experiment, based on the Sony Ericsson Xperia S, which he noted was a powerful smartphone from a supplier that has supported the aims of the AOSP project.

The device was also selected because it comes with an "unlockable bootloader" which typically makes it harder to deploy unauthorised versions of the Android OS onto the handset.

It has been noted that if successful, and supported by more handset vendors, it could see a move to a more uniform version of the Android OS on handsets.

Micromax intros supersizeonabudget Superfone Canvas A100, more moderate Pixel A90

Extra-large phones often skew towards the, shall we say, pricey side. Micromax is keen to democratize this desire for the gigantic with the Superfone Canvas A100 (shown here on the left). A 5-inch LCD puts the Android 4.0 smartphone fully in phablet territory, but the inside is reasonable enough that those in the company's native India won't break the bank: an 854 x 480 resolution, 5-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 4GB of built-in space and a microSD slot keep the dual-SIM phone down to Earth. Micromax also has us covered if we want a slightly more hand-portable size. The Superfone Pixel A90 touts a 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 Super AMOLED screen and brings in the added punch of an 8-megapixel rear camera on top of the A100's baseline hardware. Either comes with the designer's Siri-alike, AISHA, and should already be on Indian shelves with a slight twist in pricing -- the bigger Canvas A100 is the more affordable of the two at a modest 9,999 rupees ($180) off-contract, while the A90's slightly more exotic technology carries a 12,990-rupee ($234) price.

[Thanks, Kishore]

The Whole Love | james-mcwilliams.com

When I learned that the vegan author and social psychologist Melanie Joy had written the text of a wedding ceremony for a vegan couple, I immediately asked her if I could see it. Not only did she oblige, but?after absorbing my outpouring of effusion?she granted me (with the couple?s consent) permission to publish her talk on Eating Plants. Couples who discover authentic love around shared values are fortunate souls indeed. To have the whole love articulated so beautifully is an even rarer gift. Personally speaking, I find the words below immensely moving and inspiring, and am honored to be able to share them with you. ?-jm

?

By Melanie Joy

Petrina and Kevin first approached me to request that I officiate their wedding ceremony because I am a vegan author, because they?d read my writing on humans? relationships with nonhuman animals and felt my work reflected their core values. What they didn?t realize was that I am also a relationship coach?I work with couples to help them create empowering, loving relationships.

How perfect that I could speak to the two forces that bring them together here today: their philosophy of veganism and their love and commitment to one another. And perhaps not surprisingly, these two forces are intimately interconnected: the very qualities and values that form the foundation of veganism are the same qualities and values that form the foundation of a loving marriage.

Veganism and marriage are so interconnected because veganism is not simply a diet, but a way of life; some might say it?s a spiritual path. Veganism is based on a set of guiding principles that determine how we think of and relate to ourselves, other animals, and our world. Veganism, like marriage, is ultimately a practice, a path one commits to daily and practices in order to grow. To practice veganism, in the true sense of the philosophy, is to practice being the kind of partner that helps create a deep and fulfilling marriage?an empowered marriage.

To honor Kevin and Petrina?s union, I?m going to briefly give words to the dual nature of empowerment that has brought them to this moment of public commitment, in this beautiful sanctuary for rescued farmed animals. To honor Petrina and Kevin?s union, I ask that you witness the nature of their love for one another and their love for other beings, through witnessing their practice of an empowered marriage and of veganism.

I

In an empowered marriage partners practice empathy. To empathize with another is to truly place yourself in their shoes, to do your best to see the world through their eyes?whether that other is your partner with whom you?re in the midst of a heated argument, or a piglet who was born into captivity.

In an empowered marriage partners practice compassion. To treat another with compassion is to treat them with genuine kindness. It?s to be able to say you matter, you have a life that matters to you, and, therefore, you matter to me?whether you are the person with whom I?ve chosen to share my life or another being with whom I share this planet.

In an empowered marriage partners practice mindfulness. When we practice mindfulness, we authentically reflect on our choices; we strive to be thoughtful partners and conscientious consumers. We examine the impact of our actions on others and try to act in a way that causes them the least harm.

In an empowered marriage partners practice commitment. True commitment means doing what?s right rather than what?s easy, being willing to sacrifice your immediate desires for the greater good of the relationship, or for the Earth.

In an empowered marriage partners practice courage. Courage is being able to admit you?re wrong, being open to hearing painful truths, and remaining true to your values in the face of pressure to stray. And courage means being willing to share power rather than wield it over another, to control yourself rather than control someone else, whether that someone else is the person you wake up next to every day or has four legs instead of two, wings instead of arms, or swims rather than walks.

In an empowered marriage partners practice love. And love, as writer Joanna Macy points out, is a verb. It is not merely a feeling, but an action. Love is acting in the best interest of another.

And it is love that is the hub of the wheel of both marriage and veganism?indeed, of life. Love as a verb requires us to call forth our highest human qualities, to become our best selves. Love as a verb nourishes our minds, hearts, and souls and makes us grow into better partners and better people.

II.

As I came to know Petrina and Kevin, what emerged was a picture of two people who truly strive to espouse the values of an empowered marriage?and an empowered life. Empowerment ultimately means practicing integrity, and integrity by definition is the integration of values and practices. It is clear that Kevin and Petrina, as individuals, practice integrity toward each other as well as toward the animals with whom we share the planet. And it is clear that their relationship?an entity unto itself?is also one of integrity.

Some of the statements the people in their lives sent me shed light on this trio of Kevin, Petrina, and their relationship:

Theirs is a very wonderful love?[a love] of two people living on either side of the Atlantic, bought together by vegan food and a meandering walk through the suburbs of Bristol.

[Kevin] truly is a good person and a perfect match for Petrina. The two of them have rekindled my belief in true love. I like the way they look at each other when the other isn?t watching. I hope they have kids because they have an amazing gene pool.

[When Kevin met Petrina] he seemed instantly smitten.

They say food is the way to a man?s heart, I think it could be the other way round too.

Veganism plays a very important role in their lives and to be married at an animal sanctuary is perfectly fitting.

It has been fantastic to see [their] love grow over the years.

And finally, Petrina?s mother says that Petrina ?is a beautiful person? and ?Kevin is a kind, gentle, and supportive man.?

III

What a gift to have a partner who truly ?gets? you, and who truly sees the world through your eyes, especially when your core philosophical orientation is shared by so few others. Looking at the world through vegan eyes is like looking at the world from the outside in, or like taking off dark sunglasses so that you see everything in a different light. Looking at the world through vegan eyes you see a planet replete with unspeakable suffering that is invisible to most others, and that daily offends your deepest sensibilities: what others see as food you see as a once-sentient being; what others see as sport you see as cruelty; what others see as something you see as someone?someone whose soul you can see when you look into their eyes.

What a gift to have found a partner to assuage the loneliness that comes with being one of the less than one percent of vegans in the world, truly validating your experience. A partner who respects your sensitivity, who honors your grief, who celebrates your passion, who sees your compassion for other beings as a reflection of your personal power.

What a gift to have found a partner who will walk by your side down the road less traveled, who will remind you that you?re not alone, whose camaraderie will help you not to become embittered, judgmental, and despairing in a world that you find so deeply challenging and chronically confounding and where genuine love has become a radical concept.

What a gift to have found a partner who can share in the joy of creating a life of love-as-a-verb and abundance of spirit.

IV

It is clear that Kevin and Petrina have given each other a great gift?the gift of a partner who will bear witness not only to them, but with them. When we bear witness, we are willing to see the truth, with our eyes as well as our hearts; to bear witness to another is to say I see you. I truly see you.

Both marriage and veganism require that we bear witness, to each other, and to other beings.

You have been invited here today to bear witness to this wedding ceremony, which is the mission statement for Petrina and Kevin?s marriage.

Source: OnLive undergoing buyout in wake of dire financials, laying off 'at least 50 percent' of staff

After a lot of back and forth from the rumor mill and official OnLive channels, we now have what we believe to be a far clearer view of precisely what is happening right now at OnLive headquarters in Palo Alto. We've spoken with a (now former) employee of the gaming service who ran down today's events for us. According to the account, a meeting was held at OnLive's offices at 10AM this morning, wherein the company's CEO announced a massive staff layoff -- at least 50 percent of the staff, according to our source's numbers. The layoffs come as part of across the board cuts to the company, and all those out of a job will have their key cards deactivated as of 4PM local time today. The source was understandably baffled by the abruptness of the news, along with the added blow that no severance will be offered and stock holdings are essentially worth nothing.

The move apparently comes as OnLive is being purchased by an unknown party. Those being kept on have reportedly received offer letters from the new company. Why the sudden move? The source believes it may have something to do with the company's massive operating costs, which we're told are around $5 million a month. Certainly those concerns line up with a story dug up by Kotaku highlighting the company's plans to file for Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors as a result of the company's troubled financial situation. We're still gathering information as to the nature of the buyout.

Update: According to our source, the writing wasn't on the wall at the company per se, but OnLive had reportedly been entertaining acquisition offers ahead of the news from companies including HP.

College Super Tournament Of Nike Schools Is Close To Happening

Sixteeen Nike-sponsored universities from eight college conferences are getting closer to creating a branded tournament as a tribute to Nike co-founder Phil Knight in 2017, ESPN reported yesterday. The names, as expected, are some of the biggest headliners in college basketball ? Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky included. Technically, it will be two eight-team tournaments because NCAA rules prohibit two teams from the same conference playing at the same regular-season tournament. Working around that means the party for Knight?s 80th birthday is ready to go, as long as it can find a TV partner (and ESPN is very interested).

Knight turns 80 in February 2018, but although he?s been a pioneer for some of the most audacious projects in sports in his 48 years since the company?s founding as Blue Ribbon Sports, he didn?t think this up. That credit is due to Michigan State?s AD, Mark Hollis, who has commitments from the schools for this. They are: Kentucky, Florida, Michigan State, Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina, Connecticut, Georgetown, Texas, Oklahoma, Stanford, Oregon, Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga and Portland.

It might not just be limited to these 16, ESPN reported Hollis as saying. Eight other Nike schools could arrive for a, technically, third tournament. The biggest fear here, for me, is that this ? while well intentioned as a hat tip to Knight?s support ? will bring to college hoops what the ABCD and Nike summer camps were to high school hoops in the mid-200s. High school players had to choose their alliance before they even knew where they?d be attending. The zero-chance of crossover between camps and recruits did little for fans. The reason why college basketball in November is the best thing until March is the matchup possibilities, regardless of affiliation ? take last fall?s Kentucky vs. Kansas game at Madison Square Garden that came as part of the State Farm Champions Classic. The basketball could be an amazing spring preview, but would it be worth it if ?Under Armour and Adidas tournaments begin proprietary tournaments, too? Adidas has its North American HQ in Portland. With teams from so many conferences in this Nike tournament, maybe it doesn?t really matter it?s all under one umbrella after all.

The biggest names are staggering here, of course. But how good would this tournament be, from a basketball level? Five years is no longer one recruit?s life cycle at the most high-profile school ? Kentucky could feasibly continue its one-and-done streak of the past two seasons into 2017. Pac-12 basketball could go in any number of ways in five years given its up (UCLA Final Four run) and down (barely two teams in last year?s NCAA Tourney) but Oregon and Stanford wouldn?t necessarily be teams you might think of as nominees. Both schools, however, have been attended by Knight and each has received single, $100-million plus donations from him. Oregon was not going to be left out of this tournament. Portland is the biggest to benefit from this arrangement as the hometown team in a conference dominated by one invited squad (Gonzaga), though the Pilots are not roll-over material in the least.

The kind of basketball played here could be adjusted by any number of coaching changes could change the power of this lineup come 2017. Connecticut could be coached by someone other than Jim Calhoun, John Calipari may have moved on from Kentucky, and Mike Krzyzewski seems to never age but would be 70 at tipoff.

Based in Beaverton, the tournament will be about a 20-minute drive away from Nike HQ at Portland?s Rose Garden and Memorial Coliseum, which has last seen high-level basketball when the Trail Blazers held exhibition games there in 2010. While there is no mention of whether this could be a multi-year tournament ? and maybe shifting power away from the Great Alaska Shootout, Maui Invitational and Coaches vs. Cancer tournaments of the preseason world ? another of Hollis? inventions has gone from one-off to still going. Michigan State and North Carolina?s game on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson last November, a huge hit, has led it to continue into 2013.

What do you think?

Heartburn leads to a burning experience in the abdomen, neck and breasts. People experiencing it frequently may develop gerd, a very carefully relevant and in the very same way attribute illness. If taken appropriate health care of at the beginning, there is no purpose why the problem really should result in aspect benefits.

The symptom most linked with GERD is heartburn, so named due to the fact the burning sensation guiding the breastbone feels like your coronary heart is burning. This is the hiatal hernia treatment for sufferers with hiatal hernia.

Nonetheless, the hiatus hernia may possibly force it up and this tends to make it lie in the chest. Since, the diaphragm is accountable in helping the LES to stop reflux this predicament might produce a serious difficulty. The lowered pressure helps make hiatus hernia add to the reflux.

Hiatal hernia also known as diaphragmatic hernia is an frustrating and serious well being difficulties that ought to be taken care of instantly. All-natural hiatal hernia heal is an a lot more preferable strategy than health-related technique as normal method can tackle the problem correct to the root and leave no aspect impact.

Folded DNA becomes Trojan horse to attack cancer

IT WORKED for the ancient Greeks, so why shouldn't it work for us? Some cancers are resistant to chemotherapy, but we can attack them successfully by hiding drugs inside folded-up DNA.

DNA origami involves folding a single strand of DNA into a complex pattern, creating a 3D structure. Baoquan Ding at the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology in Beijing, China, and colleagues loaded a tubular piece of folded DNA with doxorubicin, a chemotherapy drug. The DNA Trojan horse delivered a dose of the drug that proved lethal to human breast-cancer cells, even though they had developed resistance to doxorubicin (Journal of the American Chemical Society, DOI: 10.1021/ja304263n).

"This is the first study to demonstrate that DNA origami can be used to circumvent drug resistance," says Hao Yan at Arizona State University in Tempe, who jointly led the work. The cancer cells may not recognise the DNA origami as a threat in the way that free doxorubicin is, he suggests. The folded DNA might also alter the pH inside the cells, increasing the drug's activity.

AUTO INSURANCE: What Cars to Buy for Cheap Car Insurance

Getting cheap car insurance starts out with the type of vehicle you?re buying. If you take insurance prices into consideration while you?re still standing in the car lot, you may be able to make a better long-term investment. After all, it?s not just the price of the car, but the added costs related to owning a vehicle that really add up over time.

Things to Look For

Although newer cars often command a higher insurance premium than older vehicles, some of this cost may be offset by modern safety features. Insurance companies will offer discounts based on the presence of air bags, automatic seat belts, and crumple zones which all work together to reduce the chances of damage in an accident. New cars may also have proximity sensors, anti-lock brake systems, and other equipment designed to help avoid accidents in the first place. Anti-theft devices are another add-on which lower the cost of insurance premiums. You can also check online to see the cars which have the lowest rate of being stolen, and purchase a model which isn?t so tempting to carjackers.

Things to Avoid

To get cheap car insurance quotes, you should stay away from several vehicles:

  • Flashy models like convertibles or sports cars

  • Bright colors like red or yellow

  • Luxury or high-performance vehicles

  • Very small or very large vehicles

Some of these factors make cars more attractive for potential theft, while others simply make them more likely to be driven unsafely. For example, the typical driver of a zippy little sports car most likely takes much more chances when driving than a mom who?s driving an older family vehicle.

A Word on Size

Although SUVs may seem like a safer vehicle that will result in lower insurance rates, the larger they get, the greater the chance of rollover. Smaller vehicles can save you tons on gas, but may increase your premiums, since the chances of sustaining damages in an accident are much greater in a small car. Going for a safe car which is large enough to protect the passengers within, but not so large that it will cause significant damage to property in case of an accident, is your best bet for cheap car insurance.

92% Farewell, My Queen

If you are expecting a French film chronicling the last days of Marie Antoinette, then you may be in for a slight disappointment. Brilliantly directed by the Benoit Jacquot (who also co-wrote the much less impressive script) and starring Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette and Lea Seydoux, who plays one of the Queen's readers named Sidonie Laborde, and is also the protagonist of this film (for some reason) "Farewell, My Queen" is advertised as the story of the last days of Marie Antoinette, but it's more like the somewhat muted story of the two months before the "last days" of Marie Antoinette. So, even though "Farewell, My Queen" is a better movie than Sofia Coppola's ill advised, indie rock inspired, "Marie Antoinette", due to the faux-final-days story structure, in conjunction with the fact that "Farewell, My Queen" uses Marie Antoinette as a side character, telling the story from the point of view of Sidonie Laborde (a nobody) this is a film which may have many audiences scratching their heads as to why the need to show this particular moment in the life of Marie Antoinette. As I alluded to above, "Farewell My Queen" chronicles a miniscule portion in time during the last months of Marie Antoinette's reign. However, audiences are not treated to "the good part", or the part they undoubtedly came to see. What I mean by this is there are almost no visuals of the actual Revolution, plus (and more importantly) we don't actually get to witness the final days of Marie Antoinette's life simply because "Farewell, My Queen" curiously plays out through the eyes of one of her ladies-in-waiting. Instead, audiences are forced to sit through a pseudo-love story that focuses not on the very interesting end of Marie Antoinette's reign, but on the minutiae right before it! This film is the equivalent of sitting through the love story of Jack and Rose, with the movie ending just before the Titanic strikes the iceberg. Yes, I am aware that this is a script which was adapted from a critically acclaimed novel by Chantal Thomas, BUT it still doesn't make the story's focus any less misguided. I mean, there are some scenes which do attempt to create a somewhat intriguing love story, an aspect which must be fully accredited to some fantastic mood setting by Jacquot, but in the same vein, this film never rises above said simplistic love story. Side Note: Another issue many audiences will likely come across is how frivolously "Farewell, My Queen" throws its viewers right into the deep end of this story, with little exposition. In fact, the greatest individual flaw which hinders "Farewell, My Queen" will be seen in the audiences immediate realization that neither Jacquot's visuals or the engaging performances (which I will speak about later) are going to give those not formally versed in the players of the French Revolution and the fall of Versailles, the background information they may desperately desire, as this film half-introduces more and more characters of seeming importance. So, do yourself a favor, if you are going to see "Farewell, My Queen" (at the very least) peruse the Marie Antoinette Wiki page before going to see this film. With that said, the visuals (the set design in conjunction with the director) are somewhat breathtaking at times, due to Jacquot making some very brave directorial choices, including tons of long takes which trail behind characters as they weave in and out of crowds, giving audiences an intimate feeling of the atmosphere of late 1700's France, and a few beautifully constructed shots of the landscapes. And I guess it doesn't hurt that the two female leads, Seydoux and Kruger, both give engaging performances. But even if Kruger's interpretation of Antoinette is one of the best I've ever seen and Seydoux is so captivating to watch as she effortlessly takes control of the movie every time she is on screen, there is simply not enough in the story or the writing to give reasoning to the eccentric behavior or motives behind the actions of Marie Antoinette or (more importantly) give a reason as to why Sidonie is so infatuated with her. So, even though, in the latter half of the film (more than an hour in) Jacquot does create an atmosphere which allows these characters to somewhat blossom, many will find it hard to care about a Marie Antoinette story that contains no beheadings. Final Thought: Based on a "last days" plot which attempts to imitate a much better film like "Downfall", even with some spectacular direction and two engaging female performances, "Farewell, My Queen" is nothing more than this year's "My Week With Marilyn", telling a story which focuses on characters nobody really cares about, rather than simply creating a storyline around the life/last days of (in this case) Marie Antoinette. So, even if you are a Marie Antoinette fan, with the overall structure the way it is, "Farewell, My Queen" is nothing more than DVD worthy at best.
